Wipe Me Down!
Let’s talk about dust. Sounds innocent enough right… nope! Dust can be so dangerous to our health, but mainly because we don’t know just how harmful it is and can’t take action against it. Dust is really a sneaky little thing that we can’t avoid at all. One thing we can do is reduce how much of it is in our homes.
I’ve gone into homes with little to no visible dust. Then, there are those homes where you wipe off a dresser, turn your head for a second and the dresser is back covered with dust. A single home, on average, collects over 40 pounds of dust in a year. This isn’t just small particles of dirt, dust carries many different types of microorganisms, some pathogenic. It also carries lots of bacteria. Reducing the amount of dust in your home will do wonders for your overall health and wellbeing.
In my 10 years of cleaning, almost every home that had unusual amounts of dust, I noticed that the client would have a CPAP machine. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
Overtime, overexposure to dust, can reduce lung functionality.
I know, you want to know “how”, how do you reduce the amount of dust in your home? Here are a few things you can do to reduce the amount of dust in your home:
Dusting!
Vacuuming consistently every week
Cleaning your air ducts every three years
Cleaning your ceiling fans once a week
Cleaning your blinds
Opening all the windows in your home once a month
As I always say, “Don’t overthink it!” Keep it simple, if you see dust, dust, and keep it moving.
That’s it for today, Keep It Clean!
